This program is designed to raise awareness of apprenticeship in Saskatchewan schools by helping young people discover the rewards of working in the skilled trades.


Benefits for students:

  1. - Development of a career portfolio

  2. - Activities and challenges that are designed to assist with career development

  3. - Time credit toward apprenticeship (300 hours if completed)

  4. - Waiver of apprenticeship registration fee (currently $150)

  5. - Waiver of tuition fee for first level of technical training as an apprentice (approximately $240)

  6. - Eligible to apply for a $1000 scholarship depending on the school chosen


Entry Requirements:

Saskatchewan high school students, who are at least 15 years of age and meet ONE of the following criteria

  1. -Experience with part-time or seasonal work

  2. -Registered in a Practical and Applied Arts course

  3. -Registered in a trade-related locally developed course

  4. -Registered in a Career and Work Exploration 10, 20 or 30

  5. -Registered in a PAA survey course with at least one third trade-related content


How to join:

  1. -Meet with Ms. Lapointe and obtain a contract.

  2. -Once the contract is complete and handed in you will be given your passport booklet.

  3. -You will then be required to take ownership for your learning and be responsible for meeting once every two weeks with the SYA club at lunch and completing your challenges in a timely fashion. Your teacher is not your babysitter and will not chase you down to hand in assignment.  You need to be responsible and want this enough to be dedicated and reliable.
